3. Sharing the Märchen Theme

The German Fairy Tale Route connects cities through two main themes. The first is the life journey of the Brothers Grimm, linking places associated with their birth, childhood, education, and scholarly work. The second is the regional background of fairy tales, where cities are connected to stories, characters, and traditions associated with the Grimm collection.

Over time, the route expanded beyond fairy tales alone. By including local legends, folk traditions, and historical narratives, more cities were able to participate in the network while maintaining their own unique identities. This approach has allowed the German Fairy Tale Route to grow into a broad cultural partnership connecting more than 65 cities and towns.

독일 메르헨스트라세는 크게 두 가지 방식으로 도시들을 연결하고 있습니다. 첫째는 그림형제의 출생, 성장, 학업, 연구 활동 등 인생여정이며, 둘째는 그림형제가 수집한 메르헨의 지역적 배경입니다.

또한 메르헨뿐만 아니라 자겐(Sagen), 레젠드(Legenden)를 비롯한 지역 전승과 역사 이야기를 함께 활용하면서 더 많은 도시들이 각자의 정체성을 유지한 채 네트워크에 참여하고 있습니다. 이러한 방식은 오늘날 65개 이상의 도시와 마을을 연결하는 독일 최대의 테마형 문화 네트워크로 발전하는 기반이 되었습니다.
